WRKE Named Student Organization of the Year

Salem, VA (WRKE) — On April 23rd, WRKE was named the Roanoke College Student Organization of the Year by the Student Life Council for the 2016-2017 academic year. The award was given based upon WRKE’s move to the new studio, interviews with activists like George Takei and Helen Prejean, extended programming, updating of station promotions and music, and the political programming that included coverage of Chelsea Clinton’s visit to campus, coverage of election night, and coverage of the inauguration. “Something like this is obviously exciting and we are all very happy” said program director Elijah Wilhelm. “But it can’t stop here. We aren’t going to stop until we are the number one station in the world!” Wilhelm says that although he doesn’t see that happening anytime soon, “If we stop before that point then what are we doing? There is always room for improvement! So today, we celebrate, and tomorrow, we get back to work on making this station even better!”
