Manager/Student Adviser – Rick Mattioni (

Rick comes to Roanoke College with over 43 years of experience in broadcasting. Rick has been a program director/digital content manager, a news and public affairs director, a news producer, a program host, a news anchor, and a reporter for both commercial and non-commercial stations. At WRKE, Rick oversees the operation of WRKE and coordinates with students and college staff to conduct broadcasting operations as a public service from Roanoke College and adheres to the station’s mission as a resource for students, the college community and city of license (Salem). Rick serves as an adjunct faculty member at Roanoke and works closely with student leaders at WRKE to shape the station’s image and sound.


Program Director- Olivia Sampogna (

Liv Sampogna is a sophomore environmental studies and creative writing double major hailing from Baltimore, Maryland. After joining the WRKE staff in January 2018 to express her passion for music, she quickly took on full-time involvement and accepted the position of Co-Music Director later in the semester. With Elijah as her mentor, Liv will be transitioning into the Program Director position this Spring. Within this job she hopes to continue events that promote student involvement and growth in the staff itself. Outside of WRKE, Liv is a tutor for the Writing Center and an Academic Coach. Back home, she works full-time at a dog daycare and devotes whatever time she has left to her love for live music. She aspires to integrate her love of music into her professional life, though her dream job is to write for National Geographic.


Music Director – Rebecca Mitchell (

Rebecca joins WRKE from just up the road in Danville, Virginia and is in her second year at Roanoke. She is perusing a career in Veterinarian Medicine with a major in Biochemistry a minor in French. Becca loves to travel, expand her knowledge and creativity with photography, play with animals (especially dogs), and go thrift shopping. She danced for fourteen years back home at Danville Academy of Dance and has been president of Pittsylvania County 4-H Club for two years now.
